12 months ago, I became a Certified Profit First Master and I didn’t “share” this news with the world. I added the logo here and there to a few different things. Tweaked my email signature. Mentioned it to my current clients in passing. But that was the extent of it.
At the time it was just something I did that was a natural progression of the path I have been following for the past 5 years. And that didn’t seem to be anything newsworthy to me.
Sitting here today reflecting on the last 12-18 months, it’s worth re-visiting why I became a Certified Profit First Master. And take the time to share my thoughts.
Profit First is a way of business life
Since implementing Profit First in my business 5 years ago and it becoming a foundational component of any work we do with clients. It has become ingrained with everything we do.
Rather than just being a methodology for managing the cashflow in business, it has become the framework for a way of thinking.
Yes, it is in effect a tool and a process, but the way it can be leveraged to have a wider impact on running a business is phenomenal.
Wanting to delve deeper on the mindset and philosophical side of business it made natural sense to immerse myself in Profit First on an even deeper level.
Experience
With only a few Australian Profit First Professionals having been certified in the methodology longer than what I have, it also made sense to become a Mastery member.
Having worked with hundreds of clients implementing Profit First in their business, remaining at the forefront of all things Profit First was a no-brainer.
This enables my clients to know that they are not missing out on anything when it comes to a deeper understanding of the methodology and all the evolving innovations in the space.
Being on the edge of Profit First innovation
This ability to be at the forefront of everything Profit First was just too big of an opportunity.
The Profit First book has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of business owners around the world. But at the end of the day, it is 192 pages of information that can be interpreted and implemented in so many ways.
I’ve lost count of the amount of business owners who’ve told me they implement Profit First but, “I do it in my own way”.
And that’s great, no client we’ve ever worked with has the same implementation as others that we’ve worked with. That is what makes Profit First so good!
It is endlessly customisable which means there are so many ways that you can look at a business challenge through a Profit First lens.
Coming up with new implementation ideas and getting creative with clients.
A case in point is The Profit First Prophet.
An area of innovation that we are driving ourselves is the development of a Profit First specific cashflow forecasting tool that we believe to be the first of its kind in the world.
With our experience we’ve found that Profit First has been amazing at helping business owners in the here and now with their cash management. Giving the a sense of safety and security. Knowing they’ve got their taxes covered, paying themselves a market equivalent wage, smashing down the debt in their lives, and of course getting those great quarterly profit distributions.
But the questions we consistently got from clients once they were feeling great in the here and now were,

- Will I have enough money left over if…
And all those variations of ‘if’ and ‘when’ questions.
With other cashflow tools on the market not working great with multiple Profit First bank accounts, we decided to create our own.
Being a part of the Profit First Mastery community, is accelerating the development of this tool immeasurably. Constantly being pushed and encouraged by other like-minded Profit First Professionals along with feedback, suggestions and recommendations will lead to an even more amazing product for Profit First implementers.
The Profit First Mastery community is next level
Ever since I joined the Profit First Professional community all those years ago, I felt as though I’d found my tribe. People that understood me. Thought the same way I do.
And that’s the same for all our clients across that time. Profit First implementers just get it.
Having been a part of many different communities during my time in business, I can say there aren’t any around that can compare. For the openness in sharing experiences and knowledge. Sharing introductions and collaborations it is quite simply the best community to be a part of.
I therefore just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to network, discuss, philosophise with other Profit First Masters on a regular basis.
